2- Policies
2a) Drop Off and Pick-up
Before parking along our driveway, come up to the top, turn around and then go down a little to park on the right shoulder. You may place your right wheels over on the grass to allow other vehicles to pass by you and turn at the top as well. Come inside to sign your child in or out. Pick-up is at 2:00 PM for Preschool students, and 3:00 PM or 6PM for Elementary School students and Summer campers. A fee of $5 per 10 minutes late will be charged if needed.
2b) What to bring and not bring
Wear old clothes that can get dirty or stained (that also applies to a winter coat) and easy comfortable low-heal slip-on shoes. Bring 2 or 3 sets of extra-clothes. In season, bring a swimsuit, a towel, and a sun hat. Youngest students need to bring their supply of diapers and wipes. Preschoolers will have to create an emergency evacuation bag. Also bring one roll of paper towels per week of school or camp.
For safety reasons and to avoid conflict between children, all other objects, food or beverage must remain at home but call Helene to discuss a special situation.
If you would like to donate things to the program, talk to Helene Harvey in advance. We are not going to use computer games or television during the programs.
2c) Birthdays
Each student will celebrate a birthday by running around the sun, designing a fruit salad, decorating and wearing a crown.
2d) Sickness
For the benefit of all children in the program, following DHS regulation, a child that has a contagious illness or that has had fever over the past 24 hours cannot come to A New Leaf. In the event that a child would develop a sickness or a contagious condition while here, the child will be given the guest bed. You or the emergency contact person listed will be called and asked to come pick up your child immediately.
If your child needs to take medication while in care at A New Leaf, provide us with a copy of the doctor’s prescribed medicine. Also ask the doctor to list over the counter medication that your child may take and bring those with the prescribed medication all labeled with you child’s name. We cannot administer medicine that isn’t brought by you unless it is first aid.
2e) Guidance
To promote healthy and enjoyable behaviors, actions, and words and to avoid conflicts, we will 1-discuss school/camp rules; 2- acknowledge and support what works; 3- promote cooperation, sharing, taking turns, empathy, and talking through problems and finding solutions together. If discussion is impossible or things do not improve there will be temporary removal of privileges. If behaviors remain unacceptable there may be suspension or withdrawal from the program.
2e) Discrimination
We do not discriminate against anyone based on disabilities, race, religious beliefs, national origin, or gender.

Evacuation Plans
3a) When fire alarms sound:
1- If you are using an electrical appliance, turn it off.
2- Leave all your belongings where they are.
3- The staff member(s) in charge of children below 5 years of age must help them exit.
4- If upstairs, walk calmly to the kitchen or living room door, which ever is the closest exit where no smoke or fire is present.
5- If downstairs, use the north side exit door unless there is fire or smoke. If this is the case, exit through the window next to the stairs.
6- Once outside, walk towards the north side of the house and then down to the Magnolia tree where we will meet, make sure that everyone is present and wait for further instruction from staff.
7- If it is a drill we will go back to the house and resume our activities. This routine will be practiced at least once a month.
8- If it is a real emergency, a staff member will call 911 using the cellular phone kept at all times in the pocket of the staff’s vest. Our cell phone number is 615-585-9790.
9- We will then move to the neighbor’s house: the Murrays at 1001 Rodney Drive.
3b) When warned of possible or upcoming disaster:
1- We will put on appropriate clothes and shoes.
2- We will take with us our disaster supplies kit.
3- We will exit the house through the front door and load up in the staff’s vehicles.
4- If time permits, staff will turn off electricity and lock the doors.
5- Staff will post a note to say where we are going.
6- Staff will turn off water if time permits.
7- We will follow the instructions of local emergency officials to find a safe place to go.
8- Once safe, we’ll call our out-of-state check-in contact person: Jen Weeks 352-505-3100.
9- As time permits, we will call parents/guardians. Helene Harvey’s cell phone number is 615-585-9790.
